Bypass Trust (or Credit Shelter Trust or Family Trust or B Trust)

A type of trust established that transfers assets from parents to children once both parents have died, and tries to avoid the situation where the children can only take advantage of one of their parent’s estate tax exemption instead of both parents’ estate tax exemptions.   Recent “portability” laws have reduced the planning with bypass trusts.
